New Zealand has finally moved to Level 1 in it's pandemic plan, which means that life has returned pretty much back to normal. Just in time for the second wave to hit. Anyways, I've been awfully busy, both with the camera and without. So here' a few impressions from the far north of New Zealand, the subtropical paradise called Northland.
Omamari Beach. Start of the longest drive-able beach in New Zealand |
Puffball Mushroom |
Waiotemarama Falls |
Unnamed Waterfall. Lovely spot. |
Cormorant |
Sunset at Kai Iwi Lake |
Wairua Falls. If only it wasn't in the center of a conventional dairy farm... |
Rainbow Falls, Kerikeri |
Rimu tree foliage. So beautiful. |
Spiky Mushrooms |
Werewere-Kokako |
Named after the blue Wattle of the Kokako bird. |
This Mushroom is native only to Nz, India and Brazil. |
It's fearured on New Zealands $50 Note. |
I'm still thoroughly impressed by it's bright color. |
Old Elm tree |
Silvereye |
A juvenile here. the species is native to the south eastern pacific. |
The bird is only around 12cm long and 10g heavy. |
Despite their small size they are amazing flyers. The tasmanian population crosses Bass Strait in fall and then again in spring. 300km nonstop flying is more than astonishing for bird this size. |
They're fairly new to New Zealand, having first been described in 1832. |
They likely were blown over from Australia in a storm. |
Cherry Tamarillo |
Haruru Falls |
Nice Waterfall, but the picnic area was occupied by this unruly flock. |
