Karamea

Well, after much consideration I've passed on my 6DMk2 and I have made the switch to Fujifilm. I do hope the new owner gets along with it better than I did.

I'm now shooting with the Fuji X-S10 and here are the first results:

A little mushroom and it's friends

Small 'waterfall'

I do love the rainforest on the West Coast. Such a nice mix of old mining relics and lush green forest. and the ever present little streams and trickles of water...

Ngakawau River

Mangatini Falls

And again, in Black and White.

Koromiko, or Bellbird. Sadly he or she was hiding in a dark bush, so I lost a lot of detail in the picture

And yes, this is still the same car I bought 3 years ago. It just had a little 'freshen up'

Tall Rimu trees

Moria Arch. Apparently it got it's name in the 80s, long before it got to feature in the film as entrance into the mines of Moria.
The colour of the Oparara river comes from the tannins coming from decaying leave litter in the surrounding rainforest.

Detail of the forest floor

South Island Robin, or Toutouwai

A quick preen and then off to catch the next sandfly!

Mirror Tarn, a small lake known for it's still waters in which the surrounding rainforest reflects.

Oparara Arch. Sadly quite a bad picture, but it is the largest limestone arch in the southern hemisphere.
219m long, 79m wide and 43m high! I will return with a tripod and get some better pictures.

Small staircase leading down under Moria arch.

A purple pouch fungus.

Glow worms in Tunnel Cave. Will get a better picture of them one day

A plant at the entrance of Miner's Cave. I'll never get enough of the shapes and colours of New Zealand's native bush!

Stalactites in Miner's Cave

Swing Bridge across Kohaihai River. The native Nikau Palms add a nice touch of light green

Detail on a Nikau

Detail on the trunk of a Nikau. For 40 years the palm is just leaves. Then it will grow a trunk and add a ring every year.  This one must have grown on an angle.

Detail of the leaf.

Male Chaffinch in a cabbage tree

I'm impressed with the Fuji's autofocus and IBIS. Really seems to work well!

Native bushhen or Weka.

These flightless birds a known to be cheeky, feisty and completely fearless.

Trunk of a tall Rimu or Red Pine

Maruia Falls

Spoonbills resting at Grovetown Lagoon. Very happy with how much detail the X-trans Sensor picks up!
